Challenge

There were two critical challenges for this project. Simple minimalistic designs are the hardest to create. Theres nothing to hide behind, its focusing on your skill and workmanship in detail. In contrast fountains in pools are much easier as there’s lots going on. This ground level pool, with its circular shape, perfectly still water creates mirror like reflections and crystal clear water. Keeping the surface at the bottom is a challenge in itself, but maintaining this look, not just when its first turned on, but for the customer to easily maintain well into the future really pushes the boundaries of your capabilities.

The plant equipment needed to be remote, so it did not affect its simple look. A system had to remove surface debris, skimming the surface, removing any floating debris. What appeared to be still water in fact needs a significant amount of flowing water to achieve this. How could this be done with out loosing a mirror like surface?

Solution

A simple design. Less is more. That’s what you see and enjoy. A baffle system was engineered, manufactured and installed within the base of the pool. Critically behind the scenes situated away from the water feature is a plant room that takes care of many demanding requirements. An easy to remove trash basket allowed larger debris such as leaves to be taken out of the water feature. To introduce the high water flow a bespoke baffle system was design, manufactured and installed, along with engineered metal work that created a circular infinity edge, polishing the water for that mirror surface.

Outside the water feature various underground pipe work liked up the plant room to the water feature. The plant room has a sophisticated system of particle filtration, chemical dosing and water top up. All operated automatic by electronic controllers. Once commissioned by us the water feature takes care of itself with minimal maintenance.

Benefit

Simple is often the best design. It looks beautiful and we believe its even more so when you question why so simple is so nice. Its relaxing whilst at the same time thought provoking. Whilst its a focal point it blends into the canvas of the ground to appear as one. With what appears to be simple, below ground is a hidden system, which the viewer is unaware of working hard to create this look. The design and engineering not only looks after this but with the benefit of the customer having little intervention to maintain it.
