Ever-cleaning mirror
The Specular is a marriage between water and sculpture in a very unique way. Water doesn't always need to be energetic fountains, it can simply be the stillness that only water provokes. For centuries water has been used by artists with the reflections it produces, soothing the mind and soul. To truly experience this effect to the fullest extent, the surface must produce picture-perfect reflections of the sky and surrounding scenery. The bowls clever design continually skims the water surface, removing even the smallest particles producing an ever cleaning mirror, with reflections that stay crystal clear all day long.
Easy to install and maintain
Everything you need is supplied and self-contained. Simply fill with a garden hose. Detailed instructions are provided. Compared to other fountains, the bowl uses minimal water, so topping up is relatively easy and infrequent. Periodically turn the water feature off, wipe the inside of the bowl and turn back on. The black surface on the inside of the bowl is easy to clean and the black colour enhances the water reflections even further.
The water feature with peace of mind
If the water level in your sculpture becomes too low, the level switch cuts off the pump and protects it automatically. Simply top up with water and the bowl starts up again, sit back and enjoy. The whole water feature, from the bowl to the reservoir is made of either bronze or stainless steel, so you know the water feature is going to last.
Perfect addition to a range of garden settings
Due to the shape of Specular it fits nicely into centre locations of gardens, where you can view all the way around, such as patios or intersecting paths, but equally creates a beautiful focal point in boarder positions. Studying the shapes of Specular you will see it looks attractive in both contemporary and traditional settings and the patina finish, which ages over time, compliments both garden designs. Depending on how the reservoir is positioned, you can change the overall look and height of the water feature, with simple cladding of the reservoir a plinth can be created, elevating Specular. Cladding panels are provided as an option. Lighting is best achieved with spotlights around the base of the bowl.
Peaceful sounds
No only does the specular look beautiful, it creates a small amount of sound. Although the sculpture is predominantly about its appearance, the water spilling over the infinity edge makes some sound when passing by. Up against the bowl, the sound registers at 58 dB. 1m from the bowl, 55 dB and 2m from the bowl, 52 dB.
"The Journey of The Specular"
The Specular™ water sculpture is bringing together crafts, some of which are rare and in decline the UK. The bowl and flute are created by a process called spinning, which is very specialist and a wonder to see. There are few companies still within the UK offering this manual operation, with the industry in decline.
Every The Specular™ starts with a stainless steel hemisphere and solid bronze flute, which is then transported across the UK to have surface preparation applied to the bowl, followed by another specialist company, again a fine art, adding real bronze to the outside of the bowl and the black finish on the inside before finally being delivered to Mike and Steve, the brothers and artisans of Tills Innovations, where a transformation takes place. Patination fluids are slowly applied by the hands of Mike and Steve until the unique finish of your Specular is created, with every one being slightly different.
The journey does not stop with Tills Innovations, as once installed, The Specular™ carries on ageing, and depending on your garden setting, length of time installed, will be come even more individual to you.

Sculpture Installation

The Specular™ comes completely ready to install in your garden. It's easy.

Generally, all you need is a concrete foundation and a power connection.

Adjust the levelling system, fill with water and turn it on. You can then sit back and enjoy.
- We provide more detailed instructions upon order.
Water Feature Maintenance
-
The Specular's™ self-contained design means generally, maintenance is low.
-
You will need to top up the water periodically due to evaporation. A hose or bucket is fine.

Infrequently, you can wipe the inside of the bowl, drain the water and refill.
