Challenge

The project required three AquaVeil water walls for very different spaces within the same hotel, with each feature needing to feel individually considered as part of its surroundings rather than three versions of the same water feature.

In the Relaxation Room, the AquaVeil needed to be unusually tall and narrow, aligning with the ceiling lighting and carrying this visual line down the wall. At 750mm wide × 2650mm high, it is the narrowest AquaVeil we have produced. Its position also needed to create a focal point that draws guests through the room while introducing the soothing sound and movement of water appropriate to a relaxation space.

The Lobby presented a different setting, with corridors leading towards the spa and treatment areas. Here the water wall needed to break up the architecture and provide a point of visual interest as guests move through the hotel.

For Reception, the client wanted the decorative wallpaper to remain visible behind the AquaVeil. We would normally recommend a darker background to emphasise the moving water patterns, so combining a light patterned wall covering with the water, mesh and lighting required careful consideration.

Solution

Three AquaVeil water walls were manufactured to individual dimensions, with the reservoir, cowl and framework of each finished in a different colour selected to complement its particular interior.

The Relaxation Room AquaVeil measures 750mm wide × 2650mm high and was finished in a bronze colour with warm-white lighting. Its slender proportions align with the lighting above, creating a continuous vertical feature that draws the eye through the room.

The Lobby AquaVeil measures 1600mm wide × 2425mm high. Its proportions and finish were selected for the larger circulation space, creating a changing focal point amongst the routes leading to the hotel's spa and treatment areas.

The Reception AquaVeil is the largest of the three at 1800mm wide × 2650mm high. Here, rather than using the darker background normally recommended for an AquaVeil, the patterned wallpaper was allowed to remain visually present behind the moving water. A clear protective panel was installed over the wallpaper, separating it from the water while allowing its pattern to remain part of the finished composition. Combined with the lighting, the result allows the water movement and decorative background to interact.

Each AquaVeil was manufactured in individual components so that it could be transported through the hotel and assembled in position. Automatic water top-up and filtration were incorporated to reduce routine maintenance requirements.

Following installation, Tills commissioned all three water features and completed a handover with the hotel's estate maintenance team, including guidance on their ongoing care. Tills also supplies the water-treatment chemicals and test kits required for continued maintenance.

Benefit

Although all three installations use the same established AquaVeil design, their different proportions, finishes and surroundings give each water wall a distinctly individual character.

In the Relaxation Room, the tall, slender AquaVeil introduces gentle water movement and sound while forming a focal point that draws guests through the space. In the Lobby, the broader water wall provides visual interest within an area connecting different parts of the hotel. In Reception, the combination of moving water, warm lighting and patterned wallpaper creates a very different effect again.

What connects the three installations is the characteristic AquaVeil water pattern. What changes is the way each feature responds to its setting — demonstrating how an established Tills design can be made to bespoke dimensions and finished to become part of an individual interior.
